Tears, new things, and challenge accepted.

The end of February came with sadness.  As many of you know, our little Sox died.  It was a strange situation. I walked in the door at 8:45 P.M. and heard Jeremy crying. I thought for a split second that he had fallen and hurt himself, but as I came around the corner, there he was sitting on the ground above Sox who was laying lifeless.  Apparently Sox was lying on his usual spot on the couch when all of a sudden he just fell off the back onto the floor.   Jeremy said that he even gave some rescue breaths to no avail.  What the heck do you do with a sudden loss like that?  He was only 8 years old! We had to take him that night to the animal hospital to get him cremated. Very sad indeed.  After that we had to go to bed and somehow function to go to work the next day.  We prayed a lot that night. Jeremy got sleep. I didn’t.  I made it about 2 hours into work when the sleepless night and headache from crying set in, so I left.  We still don’t know what happened to him, but I think not knowing has saved us from a lot of “what if” and “should have” questions. We miss his quirky habits and funny ways.  Just like these shots:

We now have a new kitty named Luna. A couple of days after we got her, she came down with an upper repertory infection, which means she was sneezing and having a hard time eating because she couldn’t smell or breath while doing so.  She is much better today!

**Edited to add that today she has conjunctivitis.  Yay. More medicine! Oye.v

I got a new(ish) car!  My poor little Pontiac started to have a lot of problems, so an opportunity came about for us to purchase a newer car!  I had wanted something the size of a Hyundai Santa Fe or a Kia Sorento, so imagine my excitement when our broker called and had a Santa Fe to test drive.  Well, truly I wasn’t all that excited because it was just a day and a half after the Sox incident, so it felt wrong to be happy about something.  I didn’t expect at all to be driving home in a newer car. But I did!  I love it! It’s got leather interior, a DVD player in the back seat, and third row seating!  It’s a 2007 with only 27,500 miles on it.  We got a great deal!

In March, we spent almost $300.00 on eating out at restaurants!!!  WAY too much!!  Part of it was due to the fact that we didn’t really want to be at home the first two weeks after Sox passed.  It was just too hard.  And then the last week was spring break. We went to Estes park and splurged on a nice meal up there.  But still. A little excessive?  I think so!!  For this reason, we instilled a challenge for April.  No eating out. None. Not even fast food.  The whole month of April we are eating at home or at friend’s houses.  If someone else wants to pay, it’s perfectly fine. But not out of our pocket.  It’s been okay so far, until today when we had to take Luna to the vet again.  We got out of there at 5:15ish, and got home around 6:00.  I hate eating late, so it would have been so much more convenient to hit Chick Fil A on the way home. But no. I heated up the oven to put in our chimichangas we made at Once A Month Cooking.  So here I sit, almost 7:00 P.M. and it’s still cooking. Again. I hate eating after 6:30. I prefer 5:30.

Challenge Accepted!!
