I’m about to show you all something that I’m not proud of. I try my best to make my home tidy and neat, but there are hidden areas that not everyone will see that get neglected. For me, when people come to my home, everything has to be perfect. If someone “drops by” and there are dishes on the counter, or my husband has made a computer “re-build” mess around the house, well, I sort of freak out. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love to host things and have people over. BUT it has to be perfect. It’s just the way I am. I sure wish my husband felt that tinge of “oh my gosh, people are coming over and the house is cluttery! oh my gosh, oh my gosh!”. He doesn’t get it, nor does he care what people see when they come over. Grrrrr! Anyways, it was time to purge the master bedroom closet, and the linen closet. As always, I have a limited budget, so my goal was to get all of the supplies I needed for under $50. I had a specific look in mind for the master bedroom closet (MBC) in which I would need actual baskets. Not cheap. I was worried. However the linen closet (LC) I knew I could get away with for around $14. Easy Peasy.
Here we go. I take you to the MBC before :
Sheets, sheets, and more sheets. I couldn’t believe the amount of pillowcases I’ve accrued through the years. Seriously. This is ridiculous.
And check out that nasty pile of lovely purses! I’ve seen several ideas on Pinterest about purse storage, and I was going to try one that involved hanging them from a shower curtain bar. No go on that one.
Now, our closet has the most horrible lighting for photos so I apologize ahead of time for the horrid quality of these. Click to enlarge.
I went to Hobby Lobby for the baskets as they were on sale for 50% off. When I got there, I was super excited because they had just put all of their Christmas items on sale for 80% off! LOVE that! So as I was glancing over the sale items, I spotted 4 baskets that had a Christmas ornament print liner in them. I knew I could just take those liners out of the baskets, so I quickly pounced like a ninja snatched them up! (It can get crazy in those sale aisles!)
Here are the baskets with the liners: And without:
I also bought some scrapbook paper to place along the backside of the shelves for a nice look and feel. Love those 50% off sales! Here are the lined walls:
Here is the view with the baskets:
Here is the finished product. Click to enlarge. I added my purses to the top shelf. I thought it looked nice, so I did the same on the other shelves too.
Part of me wants to get only white hangers. Anyone want any mix and match colored ones?
Now onto the linen closet. This was a mess! Way too much stuff, and a lot of pills and random medicines that we don’t need or use anymore.
Here are the baskets I used. Again, Hobby Lobby had them, and they were 30% off! They are in the spring section. The Dollar Tree has some like these, but they are a lot smaller there.

I can’t believe how much stuff I threw out! I had read somewhere that if you are throwing out medicine, you’re supposed to put the pills in a zip lock baggie, and throw that baggie out in a different trash bag then the actual pill bottle. I made sure to do that right after I tore off the prescription labels.
I made labels on the computer, and then laminated them so I could hang them on the baskets.
Here are the after photos: I pinned on the towel label:
Sox even joined in while I was making the labels. He loves his paper.
I did hit my goal of staying under $50! I spent about $25 on all of the baskets!
So there you have it. Closets have been purged, cleaned and organized. I wish I could say the same about the basement.
Cheers!
Lisa
