Being sick, and other things…..

After being sick for the past two days, it’s nice to be back out into civilization!  I hate calling in sick to work!  Especially because I know that it throws off the flow of the day for my co-teacher.  Blech. Glad that’s over.  On the plus side, I lost 4 pounds!

Speaking of work, Jeremy was blessed with a snow plowing job for this last surprise storm we had.  It’s tough work! He says that it’s like getting into mini car accidents every time you hit the plow into the snow.  Needless to say when he got home at 3:30 in the morning, he took some ibuprofen.  Good thinking, kid.

We started our small group this week.  We are leading a home group for  young adults who attend our young adult ministry at our church. Here’s a link to the church website if you want to find out any information on it or our services.  The first book we are diving into is called “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan.( Crazy Love Book Link ) It seems to be a good thinking book.  Something that really challenges what you think about God.  Looking forward to next week!

Being in ministry is a big step for us.  We have made some worldly sacrifices, and have had to set certain things aside to make room for God to move.  It’s hard to do that, but looking back we really don’t miss anything we’ve given up.  Let me give you an example: On a normal Tuesday, we would sit on our butts and watch television. Now, we invite young adults into our home to worship and talk about our relationship with the Lord.  See?  We really aren’t missing anything fancy.  Same thing for Wednesdays. Usually, we would sit around on our butts and watch television yet again, but now we are at church serving in the WiFi ministry. It’s nice to have met so many wonderful people in the process of getting involved!  It’s amazing how comfortable you get in old habits.  I can’t believe we used to just watch TV EVERY night of the week!!!  We actually haven’t even been watching much television except on Saturdays. We catch up on the DVR on Saturdays, and then Sunday is when I usually organize (my new obsession thanks to Pinterest ) and clean while  listening  to iTunes.  Even right now the television is off.  Strange how we even kept it on just for the sound.

Anyhoos.  I have a dump cake in the oven that I need to check on. We’re taking it to a meeting/party tonight.  Hopefully it turns out well. I’ll take a picture and maybe I’ll post it on the next blog.  Ooooh…I should do the recipe too!  Check back soon!

Ta,

Lisa

She’s Crafty!

While looking around on Pinterest, I saw a couple of other bloggers who had a fantastic idea! I got tired of having to hunt in different places for papers and numbers and this and that, so when I happened upon this fantastical organization tool…I HAD to make one! What is it you say? A Home Binder. A what??  A. Home. Binder.   Basically what you do is get a 3 ring binder, (I had an old one sitting around) file separators, clear page protectors, a hole puncher, and viola.  You can start.

As you see here, I took some scrapbook paper, cut it to size, and slid it into the cover sleeves to make it look nice. I found a site here that had great free letter printouts, and I printed those off and glued them to the scrapbooking paper.

The next step is to decide on the dividers for your Home Binder. In mine I chose to make files for:

*Contacts- On this page we wrote contacts of our family members who should be reached if there is ever a problem.

*Emergency numbers-Basically I decided that if someone ever came over and something happened to one of us…the information would be here on this page.

*Budget-Here we have our budget sheets telling us what we are allowed to spend every month, what we make every month, and payment information for bills.

*Bills-Here is where we put a clear plastic sleeve to hold our bills that we receive that need to be paid. I got tired of them being in 2 places, so this way, they are safe and secure in one easy location.

*Medical-Obviously we keep any medical forms pertaining to doctor visits, medicine directions, health maintenance, and appointment reminders.

*Unemployment-Unfortunately I have to have a section for this, BUT having it here makes it SO easy to flip to it when we need to send a form or look over a form.

*Jobs-Any papers relating to work we will keep here.

*Calendar-I printed off a whole year calendar to put important family Birthdays,Anniversaries or milestones worth noting.

*Addresses-I’m still working on this part, but it will be a printout of all of my friends and families addresses.

*Menus-Again. Nice to have at the flip of a page. We put all of the take out menus into a clear plastic sleeve unless it was a full page menu. In that case I just 3 hole punched it.

*Coupons-Again with the clear plastic sleeve.  Stick the coupons inside it and you’re set. The only problem is remembering to grab the coupons before you leave the house!

I did this whole book with $0.00. You got that right. Zero. I just looked around the house to see what I had and what I could use.  You could add any section you want to. I am going to add 2 more sections.  One section titled “Vacations” which will have addresses of places we like to visit, lodgings in the area, and so on, and another labeled “Businesses” which will have business cards for home repairs, or companies that we need to remember.  Think of what you could add to yours, and let me know when you make one! I’d love to see photos of your Home Binders!

Cheers!

Lisa

P.S. Through this whole thing I noticed that I said “we” a lot. Not sure why I did that saying as how I was the one who made it! Lol!

Beginnings…

I’ve been thinking of doing a blog for some while now.  To blog things about life. Things I learn. Things I like.  Things I do.  While sitting here pinning on Pinterest, I finally decided to just go for it.  It doesn’t matter if people read it, I just thought it would be healthy to write down things that go on in my life. Sort of an outlet, if you will.  So I will write down things that make my life rich and full so I never forget that in the midst of craziness, there is a life of a princess.  I totally know that last part was cheezy.  But hey. I am cheezy! And I like it!

On to the real first post!

Seth is over for the weekend. (He’s my little brother, and he’s 16 years old!)  I love that he’s a role model kid.  I think of other 16 year olds who would never want to hang out with their crotchety older sister for a whole weekend!  (Okay, I’m not crotchety, but I am old! Lol!)  When I was 16, I was always over at Kiirsi’s house on the weekends watching horrible old Brad Pitt movies while chowing on Stuffed Crust Pizza that her Mom forked over the money for.  And it was awesome.  It didn’t take much to please us in the 90’s!  It’s funny to think that kids these days don’t even know what the Dewey Decimal system is!  When I asked Seth if he knew, he looked at me like I had lobsters crawling out of my ears! I wish we had Google back in the day! I might have actually  passed Algebra with the magic of Google hanging around.  Yep. I flunked Algebra TWICE!!  Maybe they shouldn’t have placed me both times in the same class as Marco Scotella.  All we did was talk in the back of class and plan marching band shows.  Big mistake. Huge.

Jeremy the ordinary Prince is still looking for work.  It’s been almost a year since he’s been out of work.  Thank God for unemployment, or else we’d be out on the streets.  We’re really praying for a good job so I’m able to stay home and raise some kids and not have to work to pay for child care.  Lord….we trust you will provide.

I get Monday off of work! Woohoo!  I love a 3 day weekend!

Hmmm. Well I think for my first blog, that I am done. I’ll plan a little better about what to write next time so it’s not all over the place with randomness.

Cheers!

Lisa
